Apples of Granny Smith variety are among the most recognizable varieties of apples. They are distinguished by their intensive green color and round shape. It is a variety that is picked at the end of the season and it is highly regarded for its excellent storage properties. The taste of these apples is refreshingly sour and juicy. Apple flesh is crunchy and firm.

 

It is recommended for eating fresh, but may also be used for preparation of fruit salads, cooking and food preparation because it does not change its color after cutting.

 

Spontaneous occurrence of Granny Smith was discovered in Australia in the 1960s and today it is one of the most famous export products of Australia.

Fruit characteristics: Large (200‐250g), round in shape, with recognizable green color and nice texture.

 

Ripening time: Second half of October.

 

Storage time: From October to May.
